Girls in STEM Program as a Platform for Success
The Bionics Institute Girls in STEM Mentoring Program was a fantastic experience for me, and definitely one of the highlights of my senior years.
It gave me not only a glimpse into the world of academic research and experience of what life might be like as a scientist, but also the confidence that I had completed a project and my work had been respected by professionals.
It was amazing to learn about the work the Bionics Institute does, and how important to the lives of so many people that work is, particularly people who live with chronic or lifelong diseases as I do.

It was also wonderful to get to know my mentor Dr Sophie Payne and get her perspective and advice for the future.
The program reinforced my desire to pursue a career in science, so currently I am completing a Bachelor of Science at the University of Melbourne and have secured a cadetship with the Australian Government. In the future, I’m hoping to go into either cyber security or software development.
